Cinematic Lighting Practice – Unreal Engine 5

This is a collection of lighting explorations and cinematic tests done using Unreal Engine 5. Each of these pieces was approached with a different intention — from testing lighting temperatures, volumetric scattering, indirect lighting bleed, to shaping light around narrative-driven compositions.
Across the 3–4 showcased scenes, I pushed beyond default setups by customizing lighting behaviors for optimization and mood. Inspired by industry talks like Alexis Argyriou’s at Unreal Fest, I focused not only on physical accuracy but how light influences emotional tone.

Key techniques explored:
Use of Indirect Light Scattering over basic volumetrics to allow one light source to do more with less.
Adjustments in light temperature and contrast to control tone and perception.
Building scene depth using fog falloff, post-process tweaks, and controlled bounce light.
Real-time adjustments to optimize performance without sacrificing visual fidelity.

These lighting studies aim to understand how cinematic storytelling can be shaped just by how and where we place a light. Each shot was built with intention, balancing both technical efficiency and visual impact.
